On the 22nd, Samyang Corporation confirmed its decision to call the metallic substance specialty (high functioning) Engineering Plastic (EP) material brand which is currently in sale as ‘Metalinus’ and revealed that brand registration is in progress both domestically and internationally.

Metalinus is a name that was created by connecting the sounds of the English phrase ‘metal in us.’ It is a strategy to instinctively publicize the metallic material that the product is made of. Samyang Corporation is in the process of registering the brand not only in Korea, but also in approximately 10 other countries including the US, EU, Japan, China, and key regions of Southeast Asia.

Originally, when using plastic to make a product with a metallic feel, the product first had to be molded into shape and then be painted or plated with metal. However, Samyang Corporation’s Metalinus implements the color and metal texture the clients want on the plastic material itself which makes any additional processing unnecessary.

With the elimination of extra processes, not only can it help the client companies save on production costs, but it can also fundamentally prevent issues such as discoloration or color chipping off from the product over time. Additionally, it can reduce environmental pollution that occurs during the painting process and because it is easier to make product designs that are more sophisticated, there is a high demand for it across home appliances and car manufacturing industries.

In particular, Samyang Corporation’s Metalinus used actual aluminum flakes to implement the metallic texture even more realistically. By doing so, Samyang Corporation was able to solve problems that other companies’ products could not overcome such as flow marks on the surface and other issues of exterior appearance. Samyang Corporation is using this breakthrough to expand its business to home appliances that value product appearance as well as to interior materials for cars, etc.

Samyang Corporation is producing Metalinus’ products using materials such as ABS, PC, and PBT. It is receiving positive reviews from the market. Samyang Corporation’s Metalinus is currently being used by one of Korea’s largest home appliance companies to make laundry machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, televisions, etc. Samyang Corporation has set a goal to expand its business to overseas home appliance and car manufacturing to sell over 5000 tons of products. It is more than a three-fold increase as compared to last year’s sales.

Samyang Corporation is using Metalinus at its forefront to expedite marketing for sensitivity and color of specialty material. Recently, the company is focusing on expanding its business scope and has made a ‘Metalinus Colorbook’ that displays various samples to show the metallic texture and color display directly to clients. In Daejeon’s Samyang Central Research Lab, the company has opened a color lab to exhibit color-related technologies and products.
